The one millionth .au domain name has been registered. The announcement from auDA said a finance company on Australia’s Gold Coast registering the domain name elite-finance.com.au registered the name that reached the milestone.

.MD Moldova Domain Registration via SMS

MoldData, the .md registry in Moldova, informed DomainNews that they launched a new service called “.MD via SMS” together with Moldcell, the local cell phone carrier. This service is only available to Moldcell customers however.
 
What does .MD via SMS service represent?
.MD via SMS is a service developed by “MoldData” SE in collaboration with Moldcell. It is a service which helps you reserve a certain domain name in .MD zone via SMS.

How does it work?
It’s easy! Just send an SMS with the domain name you are interested in, spelled in Latin characters, to the number 4959. (more…)

Nominet sees Opportunities and Risks

Experts debated what 2008 will mean for the domain name industry at last month’s registrar conference held by .uk registry Nominet, predicting strong growth for the suffix. There were also warnings from some quarters over the continued rise of the practice of domain tasting, and firms were urged to tightly manage their domain name portfolios.

Lesley Cowley, chief executive of Nominet, predicted the UK top-level domain would reach 10 million subscribers next year, but she added that trust and security would increasingly be differentiators for registrars as they seek to retain customers.
