Not only is Microsoft fighting cybersquatters in court these days quite successfully but they are making sure that cybersquatters will not affect their business in the future. They have come to realize that it is not enough to own .com domains and that is why Microsoft is actively acquiring domains which could potentially damage their business reputation.

The Delhi High Court has issued a restraining order against the US-based India Broadcast Live from using a website using the domain name indiatvlive.com to broadcast Indian TV programmes in their original form. In its petition, India TV alleged the domain name, indiatvlive.com, used by India Broadcast Live, was similar to its trademark and that the plaintiffs had no legitimate right over the domain name. It’s a bit hard to know where to start with this massive publication – The OECD Communications Outlook 2007. It presents the most recent comparable data on communication sector performance and provides information on policy frameworks in OECD countries. The report also provides detailed time series data of up to 10 years for a number of key indicators. In addition, for the first time, the 2007 edition includes analysis of the communication sector in five large non-OECD countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Those of you who have been reading DomainNews faithfully, it comes to no surprise when we tell you that these are booming times in an estimated $2 billion domain name industry.
The buying and selling of domain names and pay-per-click advertising revenue for the owners of premium domain names has been growing like wildfire. Verisign claims that worldwide, an estimated that 90,000 new domain names are being registered every day.
According to industry experts, the domain industry’s market value could reach $4 billion by 2010.
At least 128 million domain names had been registered worldwide by March 2007, a 31 percent increase over the previous year, according to VeriSign.
